Co-Lin Metals, located at 5675 26th Avenue in Rockford, Illinois, was founded in 1958. The Cottrell family owned and operated Co-Lin Metals until June of 2015, when Michael and Stephen Hedlund purchased it. This father and son team brings the knowledge and understanding that comes with years of experience, a college degree, and a passion to maintain the family approach to business.
As a teenager, Stephen spent summers working at Co-Lin alongside his father. His interest in all things mechanical, as well as a keen eye for project management, inspired him to pursue and attain a bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Technology Management from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. His experiences, education and ambition guide him each day as he oversees the business side of Co-Lin in the office.
“My goals for Co-Lin include maintaining the family based approach to high quality fabricating. I would like to see Co-Lin continue its commitment to custom manufacturing, while expanding opportunities. In this way, we can help our customers reach their individual goals and assist them with the growth of their businesses.”
As a teenager, Mike began working for Larry Cottrell at Co-Lin. Now, over 35 years later, Mike has continued his career and expanded his fabricating experience along the way. As a co-owner of Co-Lin , Mike complements Stephen by utilizing that extensive experience to manage the shop floor with ease.
“I have always been proud of the quality of Co-Lin products. It is exciting to see the continuation of quality while advancing the company. Being a part of the father-son team moving this company forward is an honor and a privilege that I don’t take lightly. We will continue to be a family oriented, high quality fabricating shop for many years to come.”
